Introduction to Small Engines

This course may be suitable for:

• People interested in learning basic small-engine maintenance
• People who use lawn mowers and other small-engine garden equipment
• People who enjoy practical, hands-on learning
• Anyone wanting to build confidence caring for and maintaining their own equipment

• Small-engine basics: understand what a small engine is and how it works
• Parts and components: identify the major parts of a small engine and understand their purpose
• Preventative maintenance: understand why regular maintenance matters and carry out basic maintenance tasks
• Inspection and care: learn how to inspect and care for major small-engine components
• Hand tools: learn how to use and maintain common hand tools safely
• Workshop safety: learn how to work safely in a workshop environment and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Working in trades: develop practical skills for working effectively in a trades environment
• Planning a trades project: learn how to plan and undertake a practical trades project
• Storage: learn how to prepare a small engine for storage
