CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services

This qualification reflects the role of entry level community services workers who support individuals through the provision of person-centred services. About the qualification

Nationally Recognised TrainingThis qualification reflects the role of entry level community services workers who support individuals through the provision of person-centred services. Work may include day-to-day support of individuals in community settings or support the implementation of specific community-based programs.

At this level, work takes place under the direction of others and supervision may be direct or indirect.

In practice community workers provide services, support, activities, information and referral for those in need of assistance. They link people with appropriate services, groups, communities, and each other.

Units of Competency Expand

To receive this qualification, students must complete 5 core units and 7 elective units (12 units in total). Units will be timetabled to ensure students meet the requirements of planned participation in work placement.

CHCCCS016 Respond to client needs
CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care
HLTWHS006 Manage personal stressors in the work environment

Elective Units

Unit selection will be at the discretion of the College—please contact your nearest campus to find out which units of competency will be offered.

Course Delivery Expand

This course will be completed in campus over 12 months, delivered via:

  • 1 to 2 days per week during school terms; or
  • 2 evenings per week during school terms.

This training will be delivered in the following ways:

  • students will attend face-to-face training sessions;
  • students may be required to work online, to broaden their depth of knowledge through self-directed research for projects and assignments;
  • students will complete written knowledge assessments;
  • students will conduct research projects;
  • students will work on-the-job (80 hours work placement).
Recognition of Prior Learning Expand

Students who have completed internal or external training may be able to have these skills acknowledged through recognition of prior learning. This request should take place at the time of enrolment to enable completion of an RPL Application form and issue of the RPL Self-Assessment pack. Please call 1800 952 264 for more information about the RPL process.

Prerequisites for Training Expand

All students are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number which will be validated by the College. Qualification and/or Statements of Attainment cannot be issued without the USI number.

Age eligibility will be course specific (check course requirements).

Outlined are the pre-requisites for student enrolment. Students must:

  • have a good command of English and good comprehension;
  • provide a current email address for contact and communication;
  • have nominated units of competency as pre-requisites.

The specific course entry requirements are:

  • Appropriate LLN skills as required to meet industry documentation requirements;
  • Digital technology skills as required to meet industry requirements;
  • Physical fitness to undertake relevant work roles:
    • Manual Handling;
    • Shift Work;
    • Repetitive tasks;
  • All students will need to obtain a clear Federal Police Check and a Working with Children’s check. Without these documents the student will not be able to attend work placement.

Qualification Awarded Expand

After successfully completing this course, students will be eligible to receive the nationally endorsed CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services.
