Certificate IV in Community Services

To receive this qualification, students must complete 7 core units and 8 elective units (15 units in total). The 8 elective units will be chosen to align with industry requirements.

Elective Units
Unit selection will be at the discretion of the College—please contact your nearest campus to find out which units of competency will be offered.

This course may be available in the following ways:

• Employment-based training and/or assessment.

Work Placement
This qualification requires work placement of 80 hours in a Certificate IV employee role.

Students who have completed internal or external training may be able to have these skills acknowledged through recognition of prior learning. This request should take place at the time of enrolment to enable completion of an RPL Application form and issue of the RPL Self-Assessment pack. Outlined are the prerequisites for student enrolment.

Students must:

• be 16 years or older;
• participate in a course entry interview to determine their needs and assess suitability;
• provide a current email address for contact and communication;
• provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number which will be validated by the College. Qualification and/or Statements of Attainment cannot be issued without the USI number.

The specific course entry requirements are:

• Students need the language, literacy, numeracy (LLN) and digital technology skills to meet industry requirements and physical fitness to undertake relevant tasks such as manual handling, shift work and repetitive tasks. Student's LLN skills will be assessed at course commencement. Students who require additional LLN support to successfully undertake the study program may be given assistance at a local level.
• We recommend all students are currently working in the Community Services industry.

After successfully completing this course, students will be eligible to receive the nationally endorsed CHC42021 Certificate IV in Community Services.

The CHC42021 Certificate IV in Community Services can prepare workers for careers such as:

• Alcohol and Drug Officer
• Crisis Intervention Worker
• Community Development Officer
• Counsellor
• Community Support Officer
• Multicultural Support Officer.
