Trainer and Assessor Bernadette Meppem

Bernadette Meppem

Bernadette has over 30 years' experience in the nursing industry and more than five years as a trainer and assessor. She has established skills in aged care practice, leadership, communication, planning and coordination. Bernadette transitioned from midwifery to aged care in 2006, when she commenced a Care Manager position with Whiddon Group in Wee Waa. From there, she spent several years as Director of Care at Fairview Retirement Village Moree and obtained her qualification in training and assessment in 2016 so that she could share her knowledge with others.

Bernadette is dedicated to seeing her students succeed in their aged care careers. She views her role as a trainer more as a mentorship role:

“I want to empower our next generation of workers to become knowledgeable and kind carers and practice mindfulness in their communications and interactions with the elderly, ensuring the best outcomes for everyone.”

What our students say

Rosita Long - Graduate, Inverell Community College

I really enjoyed my study. Having been a teacher it was so nice to be on the other side and let somebody else do all the organising, thinking and planning. I also really enjoyed the group that I was with. I got to know some lovely people and made some lasting friendships. For anyone who is prepared to make the commitment and to work hard, it works.

Rosita Long

Tracey Hosking - Graduate, Inverell Community College

I worked at the convenience store for 14 years and I thought that was going to be pretty much the end of my story. Now I'm an advocate for adult learning, encouraging co-workers to get a formal qualification that will give them additional skills in their day-to-day work and telling them “you’ll come out of this journey with so much more than a piece of paper”.

Tracey Hosking

Graduate - CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing Specialisation)

Teressa Gass - Graduate, Inverell Community College

The training that I've received at Community College will enable me to get a job. I felt really comfortable going to work placement with the knowledge that I know. At the start I didn't get a real good experience at school so I was a bit hesitant about enrolling in further studies but doing it through Community College has enabled me to decide to do some further studies after this. I feel comfortable now after not studying for 26 years, furthering myself in another course.
