OUTREACH SUPPORT
Our Outreach Support Officers help people access foundation skills training and connect with pathways to further study, employment and community participation.
Community College Northern Inland’s Outreach Support Officers help people connect with learning opportunities that build confidence, strengthen foundation skills and create pathways to further training and employment.
The Outreach Support Officer program is part of the NSW Adult and Community Education (ACE) sector’s commitment to improving access to education for people who may have experienced barriers to learning. Through this program, CCNI works with individuals, community organisations and local employers to increase participation in foundation skills training, including literacy, numeracy and digital skills, and to support learners to stay engaged and succeed in their study.
What an OSO does
Outreach Support Officers provide personalised guidance and practical assistance before, during and after training. They help identify the right learning options, connect people with support services where needed, and strengthen pathways into further education, workplace skills and employment opportunities across our region. Outreach Support Officers at CCNI help learners to:
- explore foundation skills training options, including literacy, numeracy and digital skills programs;
- understand available training opportunities and funding options through ACE and Smart and Skilled;
- identify and overcome barriers that may affect participation in education or training;
- connect with community services and support networks where additional assistance is needed;
- build pathways into further training, workplace skills development and employment opportunities;
- stay engaged and supported throughout their learning journey.

Pat uses his teaching background to create accessible pathways for learners who have traditionally been underrepresented in vocational training. He works alongside each learner, focusing on what they can do rather than what they can’t, and takes the time to build trust and confidence. His aim is simple—to help people feel ready and supported to take the next step toward gaining new skills and qualifications.
Key areas of support include:
- Individualised planning and reasonable adjustments for study;
- Connecting learners to additional services (eg LLN support, counselling, transport assistance);
- Community engagement events and information sessions;
- Ongoing mentoring to improve retention and completion rates.
“Everyone deserves the chance to learn in a way that works for them. My role is about meeting people where they are and walking alongside them.”
