Erin left school in 2021 at the age of 17, feeling burnt out and that life was getting on top of her. She initially enrolled in a typing course out of interest and to “give herself something to do”.
Erin was quickly recognised as a student who could benefit from enrolment in the BSB20120 Certificate II in Workplace Skills—an entry-level course that prepares students for a career by developing the soft skills required for a variety of work. From her classroom experience, Erin realised how much she'd missed learning, a realisation that prompted her to enrol in a university pathway-enabling course with plans to commence studying a Bachelor of Science in 2024.
Erin's academic and personal growth has been supported by the staff of the Inverell Campus who have watched her put into practice the business administration skills she has learned by helping out in the campus administration centre during busy times. They believe that Erin is an inspiration, proving that an early school-leaver really can find an alternative pathway to an amazing career.
In November 2023, Erin was nominated by Inverell Community College for Community Colleges Australia’s Community Education Skills for Study and Life Student of the Year Award 2023.
