"IT's the highlight of my week!"

From the GUNNEDAH CAMPUS

Students preparing for a return to work or change in career by making sure they have the skills employers want are finding their training sessions at Gunnedah Community College are the highlight of their week!

As an approved community-based vocational education and training (VET) provider, the college is well known as a strong organisation embedded in the heart of the community, right where it’s needed. The college is committed to reaching students in regional and remote communities that experience barriers to training and employment through the NSW Government’s ACE Program and Smart and Skilled funding.

According to Executive Officer, Alison Heagney:

"As an adult community education provider, our ability to deliver responsive skills-based training to help people get the skills and knowledge they need to enter or re-enter the workforce is what sets us apart. Skills-based training has a positive impact on people, helping them become self-reliant which in turn promotes sustainability in our communities."

Campus Coordinator Lena Curran is proud to be part of that movement, and the employment outcomes reported by happy students who have graduated and are realising new opportunities as a result of their training: "100% of recently polled Smart and Skilled students who trained at the college during 2018 reported they were very satisfied with the quality of training they received while 91% achieved at least one employment benefit."

Community College Business and IT trainer, Fiona Knapman, said:

"Short courses in IT like the ‘Introduction to Information Technology’ delivered at our Gunnedah campus during term two are a win-win for students and employers, due to their focus on teaching students the skills that employers want and businesses need."

"We have a lot of fun in class and students love the fact that they’re not only learning, they’re having a great time as well! Many of our students re-enrol in a short course each term with a view to building a full qualification."

Information and Communication Technology courses will be offered in campus at Gunnedah throughout Term 3 with staff providing a safe and supportive environment for students to learn. Classes will continue to be delivered under social distancing guidelines issued by the Australian Government including information published by Training Services NSW (TSNSW) and NSW Department of Health.

To enquire about joining a class please contact the College on 0438 846 262 or freecall 1800 952 264 Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. This training is subsidised by the NSW Government so students are encouraged to talk to college staff about their eligibility for fee-free training.
