New Moree Campus opening soon!

By CATHERINE DAVIS—CAMPUS COORDINATOR, MOREE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

SEPTEMBER 7, 2020

After a long history in various premises around the Moree Plains community, the College has invested in Moree – buying 53 Greenbah Road, Moree in 2019 and renovating it with the assistance of an ACE Infrastructure Maintenance Grant of $71,875 from the NSW Government.

The College has been able to remodel the internal layout of the building and create suitable learning spaces for local business, visiting specialist training organisations and the Colleges' own work skills and self-development programs. The College has also placed its confined spaces and heights training unit on the Campus recently.

Community College Northern Inland Inc (CCNI) Executive Officer Alison Heagney said, "It has been challenging as a community organisation to take the plunge into real estate and we have been extremely thankful to have received assistance via the grant at this time. The new supersized training room equipped with modern technology and outdoor space has allowed us to continue to train during the COVID-19 pandemic."

Local Campus Coordinator Catherine Davis also acknowledged that, "Without the generosity of local tradespeople and staff we would not have been able to create such a great space. I am very excited at its potential as we continue to develop the Campus according to our five-year plan."

The College is a member of Community Colleges Australia whose CEO, Don Perlgut, said in a recent submission to the NSW Government that “Infrastructure investment by the NSW Government in not-for-profit community education providers is an investment in local communities, built by local tradespeople, ensuring these jobs and the associated benefits stay local” and that has indeed been the case for the Moree Campus.

The College will officially open the Campus on Friday, 11th September at 10.30am with the Hon Adam Marshall MP for Northern Tablelands and Judy Campbell, President of CCNI Inc. cutting the ribbon. “This is going to be a positive day celebrating where we have come from and looking forward to the opportunities to bring skills to the adult learners in the Moree Plains community,” President Judy Campbell said.

Moree is one of seven rural and remote campuses in the Community College Northern Inland cluster, and has continued providing training throughout the pandemic. This facility is well placed to assist businesses affected by the recession and support and train people towards new opportunities as they present themselves. We pride ourselves in being where (and when) you need us.
