Confined Spaces
RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces
When working in confined spaces, there are serious health and safety risks. Confined spaces may pose a danger because they are not designed to be areas where people work. Many workplaces have confined spaces such as pits, drains and structural voids in buildings or equipment. They often have poor ventilation that can allow a hazardous atmosphere to quickly develop. The hazards are not always obvious, may change from one entry into the confined space to the next and depend on the workplace or environmental circumstances.

Forklifts (also called industrial lift trucks) are used to lift, stack and transfer loads in many workplaces across NSW. Fully loaded, a standard forklift and its load can have a combined weight of five or more tonnes, making the operation of a forklift truck a high risk activity.
A person who operates a forklift must hold a high risk work forklift licence. Training to get a high risk work licence must be completed as part of a course delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The RTO will assess your training, skills and knowledge under realistic workplace conditions. Once obtained, the high risk work forklift licence is valid for five years.
