Chainsaw - Operate and Maintain

AHCMOM213 Operate and maintain chainsaws
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a hand-held chainsaw and maintain it in working condition.

This unit applies to cross-cutting fallen timber using safe cutting techniques.

The unit applies to individuals who apply low risk work procedures and comply with worksite health and safety requirements when operating hand-held chainsaws to carry out routine work.

Who is this course for? Expand

The target audience for this training includes all staff who operate a chainsaw within the work environment. Always be aware that the chainsaw is dangerous in untrained hands.

Prerequisites
  • Wear outside work wear and closed in boots/shoes.
  • Chainsaws and equipment are provided by ATPlus.

  • Timber Industry Act;
  • Australian standard relating to chainsaws;
  • Sharpening and tuning;
  • Kick back;
  • Employer’s obligations and employee’s obligations;

  • Maintenance of the saw and essential servicing;
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
  • Cutting attachments;
  • Theory of felling;
  • Basic operational principles;
  • Tree assessment and preparation;
  • Environmental impact;
  • Heading and limbing.

Joblink Plus Limited, trading as Australian Training Plus (ATPlus) - RTO ID No. 91434, will be delivering, assessing and issuing Statements of Attainment to students assessed as competent in the units per course requirements.
