WELD2022 Introduction to Welding

Overview
Learn the foundational knowledge and practical skills for welding in this 6-week course for beginners.
Students enrolled in Beginners Welding will learn to prepare the materials and carry out routine manual metal arc welding (MMAW) and routine gas metal arc welding (GMAW), including:
- Identifying weld requirements
- Preparing materials for welding
- Preparing equipment for welding
- Performing routine welding using MMAW and GMAW
Units of Competency
Students will complete the following accredited units of competency:
- MEM05012C Perform routine manual metal arc welding;
- MEM05050B Perform routine gas metal arc welding.
Students will also complete the following non-accredited units of competency:
- CSO201806 Recognising and understanding safety signs;
- CSO201812 Preparing for the Workplace.
Course Delivery
This training will be delivered in the following ways:
- students will attend practical face-to-face training sessions.
- training sessions will be held one day each week for the course duration.
Target Audience
This course is ideal for anyone interested in a career in construction, including:
- Stay at home parents
- Long term unemployed looking at gaining basic skills
- Participants with woodworking projects
- Young people
- Home hobbyists.
Prerequisites for Training
Outlined are the pre-requisites for student enrolment:
- Age eligibility will be course specific (check course requirements);
- Students must have a good command of English and good comprehension;
- Students are required to provide a current email address for contact and communication.
For personal safety, students will need to wear cotton clothing (long sleeves and pants), protective enclosed leather shoes, welding gloves and helmet.
Study Pathways
The further study pathways available to learners who undertake this non-accredited training include:
- CPC20120 Certificate II in Construction for anyone interested in a career in construction.

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government. Eligibility rules apply.
