Weaving with Aunty Mona

Weaving and storytelling are closely linked in Gomeroi culture. When people weave, they often share stories, songs, and knowledge. Each woven item can tell a story or represent a part of the weaver's life. This combination of art and narrative helps keep the culture vibrant and connected.

Join this workshop where all materials are supplied and participants will take home the beginning of a small woven mat or circle.

  • CSO202513 The Storytelling Tradition

What skills and knowledge will I gain? Expand

  • The Gomeroi/Gamilaraay People and their weaving traditions;
  • Practical and ceremonial uses of weaving;
  • Materials used for weaving;
  • Storytelling traditions;
  • The importance of weaving and storytelling to the Gomeroi culture; and
  • Weaving skills.

  • This training is subsidised by the NSW Government. Eligibility rules apply.

This workshop is open to everyone and is ideal for a get-together with friends and family.

Mona Fernando is a local Gomeroi artist and grassroots teacher who runs weekly workshops based on weaving, crochet, painting and cooking.
 
 
This workshop will be delivered by Aunty Mona as:
• face-to-face learning.
