Gunnedah Crochet Group Donates Handmade Blankets to Local Aged Care Residents
This week at Community College Northern Inland’s Gunnedah Campus, the social crochet group welcomed representatives from local care facilities to a morning tea and special presentation event.
The group, formed in September 2024, came together as part of the Granny Square Crochet Challenge, with participants meeting weekly to learn new skills, share pattern ideas, and support one another in producing handmade lap blankets to donate to the community.
Over recent months, the group has created a collection of blankets, each made with care, time, patience and conversation. During the presentation, the group donated baskets of lap blankets, along with one special raffle blanket for each facility, to:
- Boggabri Multi-Purpose Service;
- McLean Care – Apex Road; and
- McLean Care – Alkira.

The gesture reflects the heart of community learning—connection, skill-building, shared purpose, and making a positive difference locally.
'The group has spent many hours putting love and care into their creations,' said Campus Coordinator Cassandra Dunstan, who supports the weekly sessions.
'We are so pleased to see these blankets go to residents in our local aged care facilities, where they will bring warmth and comfort.'
The social crochet group continues to meet at the Gunnedah Campus each Monday from 12:30pm to 3:30pm (excluding public holidays).
New participants are welcome—whether experienced crocheters or just beginning. The group provides a friendly, relaxed space to learn, create and connect.
