The Accidental Counsellor: Supporting Mental Health for Work

If you've noticed an increased need to support work colleagues or clients who are experiencing distress or a crisis then this one-day workshop could give you the basic skills and awareness you need to give help. Explore and learn about the following topics:
  • Effective communication;
  • Values;
  • Goal setting;
  • Counselling techniques;
  • De-escalating heightened emotions;
  • Self-care.

  • Knowledge of what active listening is;
  • How to set goals with people;
  • The difference between positive and negative goals;
  • The importance of knowing your values and how they rate in your life;
  • How to de-escalate heightened emotions while keeping yourself safe;
  • The importance of self-care;
  • Signs of burnout;
  • Creating a life balance wheel;
  • Breaking goals into manageable steps using SMART techniques;
  • Using the Miracle Question;
  • Creating a plan for self-care.

This workshop is perfect for anyone who has contact with someone who has emotional needs and would like the skills and knowledge to effectively assist that person, for example teachers.
