CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues
Learn to communicate respectfully and support people with mental health issues to develop strategies that support their own empowerment and recovery. This unit applies to support workers, who work outside the mental health sector, but who come into contact with people with mental health issues. The services and support provided are not mental health specific.

To successfully complete this unit, students will need to demonstrate:
  • Having worked with at least three people who have mental health challenges, in ways that support individual empowerment and recovery through:
    • Use of communication techniques
    • Provision and adaptation of services to meet particular needs.

This short course is ideal for a wide range of individuals, including support workers, community service workers, and professionals in healthcare, education and other sectors who interact with individuals who may be experiencing mental health challenges.
